ROME Ga. -- Berry College split a doubleheader against the Emory and Henry Wasps on Saturday. The Vikings rallied to win game one, 7-6 in eight innings, while the Wasps took the nightcap, 6-4.
BC moved to 5-1 while E&H is now 1-5.
The Wasps scored four runs in the second inning off of two hits and three walks. In the bottom of the fifth, however, the Vikings bounced back, scoring four runs.
Game one went into extra innings tied 6-6. In the bottom of the eighth Dusty Tyson hit a triple. Walks to Alfred Francis and Alex McGill followed. Designated hitter Ben Jernigan then hit a single to right-center field to score Tyson for the winning run.
Francis 3-4 went with one RBI. Tyson went 2-5 and Joyce was 2-4. Alex McGill went 1-3 with a triple and an RBI. Ryan Smith contributed two RBI for BC.
Braxton Teal (1-0) came on in relief and earned the victory for Berry. He allowed no runs and one hit in the final two frames for the decision.
Jordan Woullard had three hits for the Wasps.
The Wasps also got a strong start in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first. E&H outhit the Vikings 15-12, and held on for the 6-4 victory--their first win of the year.
Devin Skelton helped the Vikings' offense by going 3-3. Francis and Hunter White also contributed two hits each.
T.J. Montgomery (1-1) started on the hill for Berry. He allowed three runs in the opening inning and was pinned with the loss.
Woullard went 3-4 with a double and a triple to lead the EHC offense. Garret Butler (1-1) got the win for the Wasps.
The Vikings play their next game at William R. Bowdoin Field on February 21. The doubleheader against North Park starts at 1 p
