LOS ANGELES — A.J. Libunao drove in Devon DeRaad with an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth.
But the Occidental baseball team couldn't overcome a slow afternoon at the plate, falling to Drew University, 3-1 in non-conference action at Anderson Field on Wednesday.
The Tigers fall to 11-5 overall. Drew earns its first win of the season, improving to 1-4.
DeRaad doubled to right center to lead off the eighth and Libunao, who finished the day 2 for 3, gave Oxy a sign of life offensively with a sharply hit single down the left-field line. The Tigers managed just one run in the inning though.
Oxy had runners in scoring position in seven innings, but didn't have the necessary timely hitting to go with it.
The Tigers threatened with the bases loaded in the ninth only to come up empty handed.
Dean Abramson was charged with the loss in his first start for Oxy, throwing five innings with two runs against him. Patrick Boyle, who pitched five innings in relief for the Rangers, earned the win.
Jake Chambers had an impressive outfield assist in the seventh to keep Drew's lead at 2-0, throwing out Robert Aulleti at the plate for the third out.
Al Krause singled in the Rangers' first two runs in the fifth and Anthony Feltre gave Drew a third run with a solo home run in the ninth.
Oxy got solid relief-pitching efforts from Josh Cohen and Riley James. James threw a scoreless sixth and then Cohen pitched the last three, giving up one run.
Next Game: The Tigers return to action on Thursday against Ithaca College at 2 p.m.
