Wabash College - 4 , Farmingdale State - 2
Port Charlotte, Fla. - In their first game of the 2015 season, the Farmingdale State baseball team fell, 4-2, to Wabash College at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Wabash (5-3) led off the bottom of the second with back-to-back walks and after a fly out freshman right fielder Cole Harlacher (Granger, IN) singled up the middle to give the Little Giants a 1-0 lead. Wabash added their second run of the inning on a Farmingdale State (0-1) balk.
The Rams cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI triple from senior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) which scored Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).
The Little Giants responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to increase their advantage to 4-1.
In the top of the ninth, freshman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) hit a 1-out double and advanced to third on a Marino single down the right field line. In the Rams next at-bat, junior designated hitter Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 4-2 with an RBI single to right. After a Richard Sullivan (Levittown, N.Y.) single, the next two Farmingdale State batters were retired as Wabash held on for the 4-2 win.
Marino was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while senior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) had two hits in three at-bats. Starting pitcher Matt Seelinger (Levittown, N.Y.) took the loss after allowing two runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Harlacher finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Wabash. Sophomore pitcher Jensen Kirch (Indianapolis, IN) earned the win after giving up only one hit and striking out two in 5.0 innings.
The Rams will play a pair of games tomorrow as they face North Park at 10:30 a.m. and Denison at 2:00 p.m.
