FORT MYERS, Fla. - Shortstop Gaetano Florio's sacrifice fly and catcher Will Doherty's RBI single broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth as the University of Dubuque baseball team plated two runs to escape Lasell, 4-2, on Monday morning.

Spartan starter Dalton Garst (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after fanning six lasers, allowing 10 hits, and surrendering two earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Spartan CF Daniel Casanova's RBI-single and run scored gave UD the 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. Garst surrendered his only two runs of the day in the top of the sixth as UD countered with their two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Despite Lasell's (1-3) two errors, all four UD runs were earned. Lasell totaled 10 hits to the Spartans (4-3) five.

UD's RF Jacob Evans added one hit, one RBI, and one run scored in the victory.
