BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The fifth-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team picked up two conference wins on Saturday, defeating Sewanee 11-4 and 5-0 at Striplin Field.

The Panthers moved to 21-3-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the Southern Athletic Association; the Tigers fell to 8-13 overall and 2-9 in the SAA.

BSC scored single runs in the bottom of the first four innings of game one, and then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, thanks in large part to RBI doubles from senior Casey Lambert, junior Matt Brown, and junior Taylor McCracken, whose RBI triple scored the Panthers' run in the bottom of the fourth.

Sewanee got on the board in the top of the seventh, scoring two, and then added one more in the top of the eighth and ninth innings to bring the final score to 11-4.

McCracken went 2-4 at the plate with a game-high three RBI. Senior Blake Stevens started on the mound and moved to 6-0, throwing five innings and giving up five hits, no walks, and no runs while striking out eight Tiger batters. Freshman Ross James pitched the next two innings, followed by single innings from sophomores Easton Fuller and Wesley Walker. The pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts.

Sophomore hurler Ryan Gaines (5-1) took care of the Tigers in game two, throwing the complete-game seven-inning shutout, holding Sewanee to two hits while striking out seven batters.

BSC scored three of its five runs in the bottom of the fourth, and added two more in the fifth. McCracken was 2-3 at the plate, while seniors David Bourbonnais and Jacob Mayfield and sophomore Zach Wingate recorded a single RBI apiece.

Sewanee and BSC will face off tomorrow in the final game of the series at 1 p.m.
