Auburndale, FL --- Junior Nick Comei (Haverhill, MA) batted 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, four RBI and two runs scored in game one as the WPI baseball team was swept by Husson, 6-5 and 8-3, Wednesday at the RussMatt Invitational.

The Engineers slip to 2-4 while the Eagles move to 2-3 on the season and deliver Jason Harvey his 200th win as the Eagles head coach.

Senior Alex Venditti (Newton, MA) doubled and sophomore Evan Lacroix (Methuen, MA) was credited with a sacrifice. Junior Mike Duclos (Greenfield, MA) totaled five runs on nine hits with five Ks and a walk. Junior Dan Bettigole (South Windsor, CT) surrendered one run on three hits and a walk in the decision.

Venditti's double drove in a run with two outs in the first while Comei's three-run shot in the third gave the Engineers the 4-0 lead. Husson cut the deficit in half with an RBI double followed by a run-producing single in the bottom of the third. The Eagles pulled within a run in the fifth and took the lead with a pair in the sixth. Comei leveled the game at 5-5 with a one-out RBI single in the top of the seventh only to have Husson walk off with the 6-5 victory thanks to an RBI knock to right center.

Game two saw Husson get on the board first with a pair in the second. WPI made it a one-run ballgame as junior Connor Kurtz (Lunenburg, MA) came home on an infield miscue. The Eagles then added three more in the fourth, two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Kurtz homered in the fifth and senior Vinny D'Ambrosio (Mahopac, NY) scored on a Venditti ground out in the sixth. The Engineers went down in order in the seventh.

D'Ambrosio added a double as five WPI pitchers saw time on the mound – freshman Sam Bacchaocchi (Freetown, MA), sophomore Drew Gelinas (Saco, ME), freshman Tom McCarthy (Jefferson, MD), freshman Adam Bettigole (South Windsor, CT) and freshman Robert Chase (Grand Isle, VT). As a staff, the Engineers totaled eight strikeouts with Bacchaocchi leading the way with four.

WPI is off Thursday before taking on Keene State twice on Friday beginning at 1pm. Husson faces Montclair State for a single game tomorrow at 4pm.
