SCRANTON, PA. -- Griffin Head Coach Paul Murphy won his #400th career game as Gwynedd Mercy picked up a 7-5 CSAC win at Marywood on Friday in the conference opener for both teams.

GMercyU would build a 7-2 lead, and hold off the Pacers in the ninth after they pulled within two runs.

Beau Fleming and Christian Carmolingo each went 2-for-3 with an RBI while rookie Gino Tripodi went eight strong innings.

Now in his 18th season, Murphy now has a 400-294-3 career mark. He has led the Griffins to four conference championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is the only head coach in the program's history.

After the Pacers plated run in the first, Gwynedd answered with two in the second as Carmolingo would double then later score on an error on a single from Justin Curtin with two on. A sac fly in the fourth deadlocked the teams at 2-2 before the Griffins scored three times in the fifth on just two hits and an error.

Chris Hens added a two-out RBI double in the sixth and Fleming knocked in a run in the eighth to up the lead to 7-2. Reliever Pat Ryder entered in the ninth, but ran into trouble as Marywood would load the bases with one out. Sachael Sciaretta would come on and after a walk and later a two-run single, he would get a fly out to center to end it and nail down the save.

Tripodi allowed just two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out four. The freshman did not allow a walk in picking up his second win on the season.

The two teams meet tomorrow in a doubleheader here in Gwynedd Valley starting at noon.
