Thomas More Falls on the Road at Spalding

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team fell, 9-5, to Spalding University today (Wednesday, April 13, 2016) in a non-conference game at Derby City Field in Louisville, Kentucky.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 16-6 and with the win, Spalding improves to 19-9.

Spalding scored four runs in the firth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh, while holding Thomas More to one run in the fourth, fifth and seventh and two in the eighth for the 9-5 victory.

Thomas More was led at the plate by senior first baseman Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier), who was three-for-four with a home run a run scored and three runs batted-in.  Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) was three-for-four with a double and two runs scored and junir right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with a double and a run scored.

Freshman pitcher Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched three and two-third shutout innings and had a no decision as he gave up four hits and struck out one.  Junior pitcher Josh Cain (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) suffered the loss as he pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up three runs (all earned) on one hit.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 16) when it hosts Westminster College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
