NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Boston Marathon maybe tomorrow, but Coast Guard and Emerson had a marathon of their own in the first game of a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader as senior Kyle Wood's RBI single in the bottom of the 14^th gave Coast Guard an 8-7 win before the Bears completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

GAME ONE – COAST GUARD 8, EMERSON 7 (14 INNINGS)

Freshman Dustin Reeder threw a remarkable 12 1/3 innings of relief for the Bears in the opener scattering eight hits and allowing five runs, three earned while walking just two and fanning a career high 12 in getting the no decision. He came on with two outs in the first in relief of Coast Guard starter Luke Sniatkowski, who left the game with an injury. Reeder would pitch through the 13^th inning before freshman Will Stevens (1-0) pitched a hitless 14^th at got the win.

Emerson took a 2-0 lead in the first on a pair of unearned runs on a dropped fly ball.

Coast Guard took the lead in the third as Wood had a two-run double and junior Kyle Jackson added an RBI single to give the Bears a 3-2 lead.

The Bears would add three more in the fourth on a three-run homer by sophomore Zach Serna for a 6-2 lead.

The Lions scored three in the fifth on a two-run double by senior Steven Cameron followed by a squeeze bunt by sophomore Joey Jacobs to make the score 6-5.

Coast Guard added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Wood for a 7-5 lead.

Emerson got on in the seventh on an error and tied the game in the eighth on an RBI single by senior Jim Cain.

The teams traded zeros for the next five innings before in the bottom of the 14^th, freshman Luke Thompson singled moved to second on a ground out and scored on Wood's single.

Cain, making his first pitching appearance of the season, was the sixth Emerson pitcher of the game and came on to start the 14^th and took the loss.

Wood was 4 for 6 with 4 RBI's, senior Mark Behne and Jackson each had three hits for the Bears while Thompson and sophomore Christian Toscano had two hits each in the win.

Cain had two hits and two runs scored for Emerson.

GAME TWO – COAST GUARD 6, EMERSON 3

Freshman Walter Harris threw the first complete game of his career, didn't allow an earned run, scattering five singles, walked just two and struck out a career-high 11 to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Alex Murdoch.

Emerson took a 3-1 lead in the second scoring three unearned runs after a dropped fly ball and then a throwing error later in the inning.

The Bears tied the game in the third as Wood and Murdoch lifted back-to-back sacrifice flies to make it 3-3.

Coast Guard took the lead for good in the fifth on an RBI singles by Jackson and senior Ed Lazowski for a 5-3 lead.

The Bears added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Serna.

Harris allowed did not allow a hit for six straight innings (3^rd thru 8^th) and retired 11 straight at one point.

Junior Cal Laird (0-5) went the distance for the Lions allowing ten hits and five earned runs while walking three and fanning six.

Serna, freshman Jake Behne and senior Timbo Duncan each had two hits in the game two win for Coast Guard.

Cain was 3 for 5 and stole two bases to lead Emerson.

Coast Guard improves to 14-16 overall and 6-6 in the NEWMAC while Emerson drops to 4-23 overall and 0-12 in conference play.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday when travel to  Wheaton for a NEWMAC game at 3:30.
