Bats Stay Hot as Baseball Completes Two Team Monday Sweep

Leicester, MA --- WPI pounded out 19 hits on their way to a 24-8 victory over Becker College in non-conference baseball action Monday evening at Rochdale Park. The win lifts the Engineers record to 22-9, while the Hawks sink to 13-17.

The win gave the Crimson and Gray an unsual sweep as earlier Monday WPI defeated Emerson 8-6 in a makeup game also played Rochdale Park. 

Senior Alex Venditti (Newton, MA) went 2 for 3 on the day, with both hits coming via the long ball, good for four RBI. Classmate John Mulready (Rockland, MA) chipped in with a 3 for 4 day. Sophomore Matt Howard (Worcester, MA) made his first collegiate hit a memorable one with a two run homerun over the left field fence. Howard added a two-run double to round out his day with four RBI. Josh Herlands (Glastonbury, CT), Chas DeWitt (Nashua, NH) and Vinny D'Ambrosio (Mahopac, NY) collected two hits apiece. D'Ambrosio also drove in three runs in the victory. 

Freshman Evan Barrera (West Warwick, RI) was the lone bright spot for Hawks as he collected a game high four hits. Nick Harriman (Harrisville, RI) came off the bench to belt his first collegiate homerun, while Trevor Read (Colorado Springs, CO) drove in a pair of runs with his with lone hit. 

Tyler Weiss (Monroe, CT) improved his record to 2-0 on the year after tossing the first six innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out four Hawks. 

Vaibhav Desai (Waltham, MA) suffered the loss despite allowing just two earned runs in four and two-thirds innings of work. 

WPI will return to action tomorrow with a NEWMAC tilt at MIT beginning at 3:30pm. Becker try to end a four game slide with an NECC battle at Daniel Webster on Wednesday, April 20th beginning 3:30pm.
