Willimantic, Conn.—Eastern Connecticut swept a doubleheader from Rhode Island College, 5-1, 5-0, in Little East Conference baseball action played at Eastern Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors (17-10, 8-2 LEC) were led by sophomore first baseman D.J. Scavone (Auburn, MA), who went 4-for-6 with a run scored. Freshman left fielder Alexander White (West Hartford, CT) went 2-for-8 with a run scored, two doubles and four RBI.

In game one, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when senior catcherTim Budd (Cheshire, CT) contributed an RBI single. A sacrifice fly from Budd in the fourth and sophomore second baseman Mike Funaro (Northford, CT) singled and later scored on a wild pitch to put the hosts up by three, 3-0, in the fifth.

The Anchormen (12-18, 1-8 LEC) scored their lone run in the top of the seventh when junior third baseman Scott Linnane (North Kingstown, RI) walked with the bases loaded. Eastern came right back with two runs in the bottom of the stanza as White smacked an RBI double and senior third baseman Chad Adams (Ware, MA) notched an RBI single.

ECSU sophomore starting pitcher Jacob Smith (East Longmeadow, MA) picked up the win (1-0), allowing one run on four hits to go along with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. RIC senior starter Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, RI) took the loss (1-4), allowing five runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings of work.

ECSU freshman pitcher Jordan Muchin (West Hartford, CT) dominated the Anchormen in game two, allowing just four hits and striking out six en route to complete game, 5-0, shutout victory.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when junior center fielder Alex Zachary (Enfield, CT) singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Eastern Connecticut brought across two in the seventh, courtesy of a White two-run double. Scavone singled and eventually scored on an error, while Funaro contributed a sacrifice bunt RBI, as part of a two-run eighth to close out the contest's offense.

RIC junior pitcher PJ Watson (Cheshire, CT) took the loss (2-2), allowing two earned runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.

Sophomore right fielder Edward Apice (North Kingstown, RI) and junior left fielder Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI) each registered two hits on the day for the visitors.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 26 (3:30 p.m.).
