KING'S BASEBALL EARNS 2-0 WIN OVER PENN COLLEGE

WILLIAMSPORT — The King's College baseball team scored once in the first inning, then added the final run of the game in the fifth as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 victory over host Penn College Tuesday at historic Bowman Field.

With the won King's improved to 21-12 while the Wildcats slipped to 12-21.

King's took a 1-0 lead when Tom Gibbons singled, stole second base, and later scored on a throwing error after a single by Bruce Breithaupt.  The Monarchs added their final run in the fifth when Dan Hartson tripled and scored on a single to centerfield by Christian Pack.  

Meanwhile, Jared Smigelski was outstanding on the mound, scattering five hits in eight and one-third innings of work. John Wickiser picked up the save after retiring the final two batters.

Gibbons led King's offensively with a 4-for-5 effort and now needs three hits to reach the 100-hit plateau as a junior. Hartson was 2-for-4 as the Monarchs managed 10 base hits.

King's returns to action Friday with a big three-game series with Freedom Conference rival FDU-Florham. The Monarchs host FDU Friday at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Madison, NJ for the final two games Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

The Monarchs can secure the fourth and final conference playoff berth by winning one-of-three games in the series.
