WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Oswego State baseball team dropped an 11-6 contest to the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors on Sunday afternoon. Oswego falls to 8-3 on the year after snapping its six-game winning streak, while Eastern Connecticut opens its season with a win (1-0).

After Eastern Connecticut opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs, the Lakers immediately answered back in the top of the fourth. Eric Hamilton led the inning off with a single through the left side, before John Barnes reached on a fielder's choice.

With two outs, Mitchell Cavanagh helped the cause by earning a walk. In the next at-bat, Robert Donnelly followed a passed ball with a base hit to right-center field to drive both Barnes and Cavanagh in.

In the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, Eastern Connecticut sent a combined eight runners across the plate to which the Lakers would not be able to recover.

Oswego snagged a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Myles Kutscher cracked an absolute monster shot to the deepest part of the park, recording a double in the process. Cavanagh drove him in with a single down the left-field line and then proceeded to make his way around the bases before scoring on a wild pitch.

Brian Nolan started for the Lakers on the bump and was tagged with the loss after allowing five earned runs over 3.1 innings. Nathan Boughton also pitched for Oswego, providing 2.1 innings, while allowing a single run. Matt Zakala entered the game in the bottom of the eighth and struck out the side in order.

Baseball returns to action at 9:30 a.m. on Monday to face Rutgers University-Camden in a single game at Lake Myrtle Park Field #6 in Auburndale, Fla.
