Scranton Uses Big Eighth Inning To Win Third Straight, 8-6 Over MacMurray

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Scranton baseball team scored five runs in the top of the eighth rally past MacMurray for the team's third straight win, 8-6, on Monday afternoon in the third game of the team's spring break trip.

The Royals (6-3) trailed 4-1 after four innings, but got back into the game with two runs in the fifth. They then took control with that big five-run eighth inning that produced an 8-4 lead. MacMurray (7-4) scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, but the Royals got a double play to end the game.

Junior outfielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had another big day, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. He had hits in his first three at bats, which gave him nine consecutive at bats with a hit going back to his final at bat of Saturday's 7-3 win over Lakeland. He went 5-for-5 in Sunday's 17-9 win over Gallaudet.

Senior shortstop Patrick O'Dell (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) had two hits, two RBIs and a run, and senior outfielder Anthony Simone (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley Senior) singled, doubled and had two RBIs. The Royals also received a double, a run and an RBI from junior second baseman Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College H.S.).

Senior lefty David Chromey (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) earned his first win of the season with 4 1/3 solid innings of relief. He entered in the bottom of the fourth and stranded two runners, then worked four straight scoreless innings before tiring in the top of the ninth.

Sophomore righty Matt McDonald (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) got the final three outs for his second save of the season.

The Royals will be back in action on Tuesday when they take on Washington College in a doubleheader beginning at noon in Fort Myers, Fla.
