Hope Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Loras, Iowa

Rightfielder JP Batts and designated hitter Mason Opple totaled three hits apiece for the Hope College baseball team during a doubleheader loss to Loras, Iowa on Monday in Winter Haven, Florida.

The Flying Dutchmen suffered their first two losses of the season with 3-2 and 11-5 defeats and dropped to 5-2 overall.

In Game 1, Hope pulled within a run on a two-out, two-run single from catcher Codey Houts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) in the bottom of the seventh. Loras (6-6) retired the next batter to strand Houts at first.

In Game 2, Loras struck first and jumped to a 5-0 during its first at-bat. Batts, a senior from Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) had a two-run double for the Flying Dutchmen.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, March 21 with a doubleheader against Thomas, Maine in Auburndale, Florida.
