Ramapo Defeats FSC in Non-Conference Matchup

Mahwah, N.J. - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell, 16-8, in a non-conference road game at Ramapo on Wednesday afternoon.

After Ramapo (6-7) plated a run in the first inning, Farmingdale State (6-9) tied the game in the top of the second on an RBI single to shortstop by junior Nicholas Soriano (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). In the next at-bat, a Cam Alfano (Yaphank, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to center scored freshman Anthony Sirianni (Sayville, N.Y.) and put the Rams ahead, 2-1.

The Roadrunners answered with a 3 RBI double to right field by junior designated hitter Matt Chemis (Sparta, N.J.) in the bottom of the second to regain the lead, 4-2.

In the top of the third, senior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) led off with a walk and junior third baseman Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) followed with a single. Junior right fielder Brandon Ernest (Owings, Md.) cut the FSC deficit to one with an RBI infield single. Two batters later, Soriano singled through the left side, scoring Osburn and Ernest to give Farmingdale State a 5-4 advantage.

Tied 5-5 in the top of the fourth, a two-out RBI single to center by Osburn put the Rams back in front, 6-5. Ramapo tallied four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to quickly take a 13-6 lead. Farmingdale State would add a run in the seventh and eighth but fell, 16-8.

Soriano was 3-for-4 at the plate with a game-high 4 RBI, while Osburn had three hits, a run scored and a run batted in. Freshman designated hitter Vincent Rice (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored for the Rams.

The Roadrunners were led by senior right fielder Rob DeAngelis (Staten Island, N.Y.) who had three hits, including a triple, to go along with an RBI and four runs scored.

FSC next will host Purchase in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 1st at noon.
