KING'S BASEBALL FALLS TO MISERICORDIA IN 10 INNINGS

DALLAS -- The Misericordia University baseball team rallied from two runs down in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings, then pushed across the winning run in the 10th to post a 9-8 victory over King's College Wednesday in Dallas.

With the win Misericordia improved to 16-6 overall and 8-1 in Freedom Conference play while King's slipped to 11-11 and 5-5.

In the 10th inning Connor Smith reached base on a fielder's choice and moved to second on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Jeremy DeCotis delivered a two-out RBI single to drive in the winning run. It was the only time Misericordia would lead in the game.

King's took a 5-0 lead in the first inning on the strength of a RBI single from Chris Rebar, a two-run single by Sean Padden, and a RBI ground-out off the bat of Shawn Stone.

After the Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the second to cut the lead to 5-3, King's answered with two runs in the third. Dan Hartson singled and Stone was hot by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt by Tom Gibbons, Padden delivered a two-run single to push the Monarchs' lead to 7-3.

Misericordia scored a run in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth to trim the lead to 7-5, but King's added another run in the sixth inning. Rebar singled, stole second base, and scored on a base hit by Hartson to give the Monarchs a 8-5 advantage.

The Cougars scored once more in the bottom of the sixth, then took advantage of a King's error in the seventh inning to score two runs and tie the game at 8-8, setting up Misericordia's 10th inning game-winner.

King's committed three errors in the game as three of the Cougars nine runs were unearned. Misericordia played error-free baseball in the process.

Rebar was 3-for-6 with one RBI for the Monarchs. Padden finished 2-for-4 with four RBI while Hartson was 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI. Christian Pack was also 2-for-4 with a run scored.

King's will host Misericordia in a doubleheader Thursday at 1:00 PM in the Betzler Athletic Complex.
