DALLAS, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team tried to stage a late rally, but could not get the game-tying hit in a 3-1 loss at Misericordia on Monday afternoon.

The Royals (12-18) pushed across a run in the eighth inning and had runners on first and second, but a fielder's choice groundout ended the threat. The rally started with a pinch-hit single by junior Seth Bower (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown), which was the Royals' first hit of the game. Two batters later, junior center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) delivered an RBI double. A hit batsmen put two runners on before Misericordia (23-8) stopped the threat.

Scranton received solid pitching from freshman starter Kyle Bravin (Washington Township, N.J./Westwood), who allowed three runs in six innings. Sophomore righty Pat Rohr (Audubon, Pa./Devon Prep) followed with two shutout innings of relief, striking out two without allowing a hit.

The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26, when they host Penn State-Abington at 4 p.m. at Connell Park.
