CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (May 3, 2017) – The Drew University baseball team extended its school record for wins in a season to 25 with a 7-3 victory at DeSales University on Wednesday evening.
 
By the Numbers: The Rangers' school-record 25 wins accompanies 12 losses at the conclusion of 2017 non-conference play. The Bulldogs drop to 22-15 and 11-5 at Butz Baseball Field.
 
Top Performers
• Junior second baseman Isaiah Mateo drove in three runs in the win. A sacrifice bunt in the sixth and and a two-run single in the seventh accounting for three of Drew's seven runs.
• Senior center fielder Marc Cohen extends his hitting streak to 13 straight game with a 1-for-5 performance on Wednesday. His one hit was a booming two-run double to left field to give his team a 5-1 lead in the seventh. Cohen added his ninth stolen base of the year.
• Sophomore shortstop Zach Lipshitz continues his hot hitting with a 2-for-6 day at the plate. He is hitting .461 over his last seven games.
• Senior Patrick Boyle and sophomore Jendy Castillo and Davis Fouts all pitched two innings each of scoreless ball. Castillo earned the win and improved to 2-2 on the mound by throwing a perfect fourth and fifth frames.
 
The Difference: The Rangers' five-run seventh. Sophomore first baseman Joseph Grossane drove home a run with a single before Cohen's one-out, two-run double. With Cohen on third, senior catcher Dan Pfefferkorn drew a walk and stole second base to set up Mateo's two-run single to left field for the 7-1 advantage.
 
Highlights
• Freshman left fielder Brandon Radd pushed Drew's first run across with a sacrifice bunt in the third inning to plate Pfefferkorn. Drew would end up stranding three runners on base to end the inning.
• DeSales got the run back in the third on three hits and a two-out RBI single.
• The Bulldogs chipped away with a run in each the eighth and ninth innings, but junior reliever Paul Roth got the 26th out via strikeout and the 27th on a flyout to end the game.
 
Up Next: The Rangers' postseason future is on the line in a three-game Landmark Conference series at Elizabethtown College, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. The final game of the regular season is set for Sunday, May 7 at noon.
