Gwynedd Mercy Scores Big Win At Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy University picked up an impressive 7-2 victory at Salisbury University on Sundayafternoon. 


R.J. Boyle earned the win for the Griffins, their first over the Sea Gulls in five meetings, throwing five and two thirds innings allowing just a pair of runs while striking out two. Gino TripodiMike Di Ianni and Dave Tatoianheld the Sea Gulls scoreless out of the bullpen.

Offensively, Ryan Keen added three RBI's with Tatoian and Shaughn Wright each recording a pair of hits while driving in a run and scoring a run.

Wright would drive in Tatoian to break open a scoreless game in the fourth inning. Justin Curtin would then plate Wright later in the inning for a 2-0 GMercyU lead. The Griffins would also add a pair of runs in the fifth with sacrifice fly's from  Keen and Tatoian plating Sachael Sciarretta and Nick Mulvey

Josh Lopez led off the sixth with a solo shot his second of the year for a 5-0 Gwynedd lead. Sailsbury, who were receiving votes in two of the three recent national polls, would respond in the home half of the inning cutting the Griffin lead to 5-2.

After a scoreless seventh and eighth, Bobby Heck lead off the ninth with a double to start a rally. Mulvey would reach on a error setting the table for Keen who would follow driving in the pair stretching the GMercyU lead 7-2. Salisbury would put a pair of runners on in the ninth but Tatoian would induce a pair of fly-outs for the 7-2 victory.

The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday against longtime rival Alvernia University at 3:30 p.m.
