YORK, Pa. -- Powered by an impressive bullpen effort and a power surge from the heart of the Captains order, the nationally-ranked CNU baseball team ran it's win streak to 14 with a pair of Capital Athletic Conference wins at York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. Reliever Brian Owens (3-0) won both games out of the pen after Brandon Ginch, Nicholas Baham, and Seth Woodard each blasted a pair of home runs in the twin bill. CNU won, 13-8, in game one and 8-6, in game two. 

Both wins would be late-inning comeback victories for the Captains, who improved to 22-4 overall, 6-0 in league play. The Captains win streak is the second longest in program history, behind only a 26-game roll in 2011, and is currently the second longest active streak in Division III. With the two losses, York's overall record falls even to 8-8-1 with a 1-2 CAC mark. 

Owens capped a sensational week out of the CNU bullpen by capturing the win in both games. After a three-inning save against Mary Washington on Wednesday, Owens struck out five in 4.0 innings of work, facing just one batter more than the minimum in his two appearances against the Spartans. 

In game one, the middle of the Captains lineup blasted five home runs and drove in 11 of CNU's 13 runs, including an impressive come-from-behind effort in the final three innings. CNU outscored the Spartans, 11-2, in the final third of the game, powered by the Captains' big hitters.
 
After falling behind 6-2 headed into the final three frames, CNU cut the lead to one with a three-run 7^th before blowing by the Spartans with another crooked number in the 8^th, scoring five runs to take the lead. In the seventh, Woodard singled up the middle before Ginch smashed a two-run blast for the Captains. Two batters later, Craig Johnson delivered a solo shot to deep center field and CNU pulled within one, 6-5.
 
After Owens came on to work the seventh inning on the mound, the sophomore lefty quickly got the heating CNU offense back to the plate. Owens tossed just nine pitches in the 7^th inning, retiring the side in order, 1-2-3.
 
With the offense back at the plate, York nearly escaped a big inning with two quick outs and a fly ball to right center, but the outfielder dropped the third out, allowing Jordan Mason to reach and extend the inning. After Conner Clark was hit by a pitch, Woodard stepped in with a chance to give the Captains the lead and the junior third baseman delivered. With his third homer in the last six games, Woodard blasted a three-run go-ahead dinger to put the Captains ahead, 8-6.
 
Following that round-tripper, Ginch walked and brought Baham to the plate, where he wasted no time and hammered the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for his second home run of the game.
 
With the lead in hand and two of the league's top relievers ready to close out the game, CNU cruised to the game one win. Owens gave up a solo home run in the eighth, but otherwise worked quickly again, striking out a pair. In the ninth, CNU tacked on three more runs of insurance for senior closer Joe Burris, who gave up a lead-off home run before slamming the door on a potential comeback.
 
Owens earned the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. Woodard, Ginch, and Baham combined to go 10-for-15 with 4 HR, 10 RBI and 7 runs scored. It was the second multi-HR game of Baham's career and his 11^th multi-hit game of the year.

In game two, Ginch kept the power surge coming in the top of the 2nd, leading off the inning with his second fence-clearing smash of the day, giving CNU a quick 1-0 lead. After York pulled even with a single run in the third, the teams' traded big innings in the sixth, with the home team taking a one-run lead, 6-5. In the top half of the inning, Clark reached and Woodard smacked his second homer of the day, rounding out the trio of two-HR performances for CNU. Ginch doubled, and scored on a Nick DiNapoli single, and CNU tacked on one more when Alex Abbey raced home on a wild pitch. 

In the bottom half, York finally got to senior Logan Harrelson with five runs on three hits, including three unearned runs on a bases-clearing double after an error extended the inning. 

Facing a deficit in the final three innings again, the Captains got to the York bullpen once again. In the top of the eighth, Brandon Walker got things started with a one-out double. Junior Austin Henry would tie the game with a single ripped into left field, chasing Walker to the plate to knot the game, 6-6. The top of the order would then come through, as Jordan Mason and Clark hit back-to-back singles to score the go-ahead and game-winning run. 

Owens retired six straight in the 7th and 8th innings before giving way to Burris in the 9th. The All-Region closer made his 65th appearance as he grabbed his fifth save of the season. The first two batters reached before Burris struck out back-to-back batters and induced a game-ending groundball with the bases loaded. 

Ginch led the Captains attack on the day, going 7-for-8 with 2 HR, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. The senior designated hitter reached base in 10 of his 11 plate appearances after adding a pair of hit-by-pitches and one walk. Woodard was 4-for-8 with 2 HR, 5 RBI and 4 runs scored as well. 

Christopher Newport will look to continue it's winning streak on Wednesday, April 4 as the team travels to Southern Virginia University.
