The Baruch College Bearcats swept the Owls from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a CUNYAC home doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York.
The Bearcats won with scores of 8-4 and 15-5 to defeat the Owls, who compete this season in CUNYAC as an associate baseball member.
In the opener, Paul Sirakowski earned the win and got off to a great start with eight strikeouts by the third inning. Matthew Lawlor pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
The Bearcats broke open a 3-2 tight contest in the bottom of the fifth with four runs. Angel Acevedo hit an RBI single, Davic Capellan smacked a two-run triple, and Elvis Clime had a sac bunt to plate Capellan for the four-runs that busted the game wide open.
Bradley Patterson led the visitors from central Maine with three RBI on a run-scoring double in the fourth inning and a two-run double in the sixth.
In the second game, the Bearcats took control early with three runs in the first inning and eight more on seven hits in the third to lead 11-1.
Gerardo Roque had the big hit in that third inning with a deep homer to left field for three RBI that brought the bench to its feet.
JP Ramirez (3-3, 2 Runs, 2 RBI) and Michael McGroarty (3-4, 3 Runs, 2 RBI) each had three hits as part of the team's 14-hit attack in the 15-5 win.
Matt Cauchon batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored for the Owls.
