PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Senior Scott Eisenmenger became just the seventh active player in Division III to eclipse 200 career hits as the St. John Fisher College baseball team ran its winning streak to six games on Wednesday after dispatching of The College at Brockport, 10-6, at Dugan Yard. With the win, Fisher, which has now won 12 of its last 13 games, improved to 16-7 on the year while the Golden Eagles fell to 12-12.
Eisenmenger nearly hit for the cycle after going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a home run. The Hilton native was intentionally walked in the sixth inning and finished the day with five RBI to his name along with two runs scored. Eisenemenger, who now owns 202 career hits, is one of just six players in Fisher's storied history to eclipse the 200-hit plateau as he now sits tied with Chris Botsford for fifth in program history. To date, the infielder has more home runs and RBI than any other player in program history and sits just 23 hits away from breaking Hall-of-Famer Andy Campbell's all-time mark.
In total, Fisher belted five extra base hits. Jake Hewitt was 2-for-3 on the day with a double while Allen Murphy produced a double in two at-bats. Antony Mantova was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the win. Michael Beimel, Stephen Edgett and Ryan Simmons each drove in a run.
The Cardinals jumped all over Brockport's starting pitcher to the tune of five runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Justin Graham worked a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position when Mantova was hit by a pitch. Eisenmenger wasted no time putting the milestone behind him after drilling a two-run double in his first plate appearance before Simmons and Ryan Brown followed suit with singles to load the bases. Beimel kept the momentum going with a single through the left side to plate a run before Brown made it a five-run affair after scoring on a wild pitch.
Brockport got a run back in the top of the second and would go on to add two more in the top of the fifth with a two-run, two-out double to make it a 5-3 game.
Fisher responded in the home half of the fifth with a run as Eisenmenger drove in a run with a standup triple, but Brockport tied the game in the top of the sixth with a big three-run home run to even things up at 6-6.
The Golden Eagles had a hard time keeping Fisher off the base paths, however, as Edgett worked a four pitch walk to lead off the bottom of the sixth before moving to second when Jack Vivinetto sacrificed him over. With two outs and a runner in scoring position, Mantova came through in the clutch with a base knock up the middle to plate Edgett and give the home team a 7-6 edge.
After a scoreless top of the seventh, Edgett gave the Cardinals some breathing room with an RBI-single to right that scored Murphy who led off the frame with a triple to right. The Cardinals continued to hit the ball in the eighth as Eisenmenger clubbed his sixth home run of the season to make it 10-6 heading to the ninth.
Jared Wren got the start for Fisher and gave up six runs over 5.1 innings of work. Wren allowed nine base hits and fanned four overall before being lifted in the sixth. The Cardinals' bullpen was untouchable as Matt Toohey (1-0) was credited with the win after pitching 2.2 perfect innings with one strikeout. Dillan Wilkinson pitched a perfect ninth inning.
The Cardinals are scheduled to take on Rochester Institute of Technology on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
