GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy knocked out a season-high 19 hits to storm past Neumann, 14-6, in the first round of the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Wednesday afternoon

The Griffins (19-12) move on to face top-seeded Keystone, who were 5-3 winners over Cabrini, on Friday morning at Owl's Field in West Lawn, Pa. in a winner's bracket game at 11 a.m. The Knights will take on the Cavaliers in an elimination game.

Additionally, a pair of individual milestones were reached as well. Nick Mulvey collected his 100th career hit in the bottom of the first on a lead-off single. He becomes the 33rd player in program history to hit the century mark. Shaughn Wright tied a single-game record with five hits, going a perfect 5-for-5 on the day and scored a career-high four runs.

Tommy Nardini was 3-for-5 and Ryan Keen was 3-for-4 as both scored twice and drove in a run. Bobby Heckadded a pair of triples to knock in a career-high five RBIs as the Griffins stormed back from an early 5-0 deficit.

Starter Nick DeRitis went seven innings, yielding one earned run on eight hits, with three strikeouts and three walks. He allowed just three hits after the third inning.

Things did not get off to a good start, as the Knights took advantage of two Griffin errors in the first to score two runs. GMercyU hit into a double play in their first at-bat and again in the second to stifle their chances to score. In the top of the third, Neumann crossed three runs thanks to two hits, a hit batsmen with the bases loaded and an error.

The Griffins got something going in the fourth with consecutive one-out singles from Tatoian, Wright, and Ryan Keen to load the bases. After a strikeout, Heck smoked a 3-1 pitch into the gap in right center to clear the bases for his first triple of the game.

After Neumann got a run back in the fifth on a sac fly to give them a 6-3 lead, Gwynedd took the lead for good in the bottom half. Justin Curtin, Mulvey, and Josh Lopez all reached to lead off the frame. Tatoian was able to beat out a potential double play grounder to score Curtin. RBI singles from Wright and Nardini would get the game tied at 6-6. With two outs, Heck struck again, with a huge two-run triple to give GMercyU its first lead of the contest.

Wright scored from second on Keen's RBI double in the seventh. Greg Wenclawiak came in to pinch run for Keen and scored on a heads up play in the next at bat. Nardini laid down a bunt down the third base line for a hit, with Wenclawiak moving to third on the play. After the Neumann defense took their eye off the freshman, Wenclawiak raced home to make it a 10-6 contest.

Mike Di Ianni came in the eighth to relieve DeRitis. In the bottom half, Tatoian launched his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot to add to the lead. Later in the inning, Wright added his fifth hit on the day, would move to second on a wild pitch, and then to third on a grounder, and come home to score on a wild pitch.

For the Knights (19-22), Joey Pedorenko was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Cody MacNair added two hits while Andrew Fowler added a two-run single.
