Kissimmee, Fla., March 17, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team held a 2-1 lead entering the eighth inning against Framingham State but the Rams rallied to end the Bears nine-game unbeaten streak by a score of 8-2 at Oceola Heritage Stadium Sunday evening.

WashU exits spring break week with a 9-3-1 record after posting a 4-1 record in Florida. Meanwhile Framingham State improved to 4-2 on the year with the win. The Bears once again jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning but the Rams outlasted WashU by posting seven runs in the final two frames.

Sophomore pitcher Mitchell Black excelled on the mound, tossing six innings while striking out eight batters. He limited the Rams to four hits and one run while walking one.

WashU took the early lead with three straight hits to begin the bottom half of the first. Freshman shortstop Caleb Durbin, senior second baseman Evan Nagel and junior third baseman John Brinkman picked up three straight hits.

Brinkman knocked in Durbin on a single through the left side before stealing second base allowed Nagel to swipe home for a 2-0 lead.

The Rams scored once in the third inning but a big strikeout by Black ended a threat for more runs. WashU preserved a 2-1 lead heading into the eighth inning. Framingham State tied the contest on a balk before five straight batters reached base in the ninth inning without an out recorded.
