Northboro, MA --- Junior Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) notched what proved to be the game-winning RBI as WPI defeated visiting Gordon, 10-6, in a non-conference baseball game played Tuesday at the New England Baseball Complex.

The Engineers (12-3) improve to 3-2 since returning from Florida while it is the Fighting Scots (1-12) 2019 New England debut. Half of the Engineers victories have been a result of double-digit runs and four have been exactly 10.

Senior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) and junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) each batted 3-for-5 and accounted for a combined three RBI and five runs scored. Senior Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) hit 2-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored as classmate Austin Lindner (Princeton Jct., NJ) also went 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Tropeano doubled twice as Gallagher, Larson and freshman Martin McCormack (Quincy, MA) each registered one. Larson also cleared the fence in the effort. The staff game was led by senior Doug Rives (Bethany, CT), followed by freshman Ryan Malkowski (Hubbardston, MA) who struck out six, senior Sam Bacchiocchi (East Freetown, MA) who fanned three and junior Nick Tagaris (New City, NY) who set down a pair of Fighting Scots.

Gordon senior Chris Leavitt (East Bridgewater, MA) batted 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Senior Alec Willey (San Diego, CA) also doubled for the guests. Sophomore Joe Pedulla (Monroe Township, NJ) absorbed the decision while junior Garrett Poole (Rindge, NH) struck out four in relief. Freshman Mike Oley (Barkhamsted, CT) and senior Noah Henkell (San Diego, CA) also saw time on the mound.

Gallagher keyed a three-run first inning with a single up the middle. Larson then doubled prior to a sacrifice squeeze by sophomore Jordan DeDonato (Danvers, MA). Senior Daniel Quint (Wells, ME) and junior John Lagerfeldt (Stratford, CT) drew back-to-back RBI walks for Gordon with two outs in the top of the second. Larson later crossed home plate thanks to a miscue in the third.

The bottom of the fourth featured an RBI ground-rule double by Tropeano and Patterson's single through the left side. Gallagher added two to the total with a double to center before an out was recorded. Leavitt scampered home on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth. Larson launched a solo shot to center in the home half of the sixth. Leavitt then sent a three-run blast to left center in the top of the seventh.

WPI continues its homestand Friday with a 3:30pm first pitch versus Fitchburg State. Gordon is at Salem State tomorrow for a 3:30pm start.
