The New York University baseball team scored a program record 30 runs as they rallied from behind to defeat the Illinois Institute of Technology 30-19 on Thursday, March 21, in Tampa, FL.
NYU (10-2) trailed 15-11 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but scored 15 runs in the frame to take control of the game and defeat Illinois Tech (3-5) for the second time this week.
The Violets' 30 runs came on 24 hits with eight different NYU players collecting at least two hits.
Leading the way offensively for the Violets was Colman Hendershot, who finished the afternoon 4-for-5 with five RBIs and five runs scored. The senior captain hit his second home run of the season in the game to go along with a double and a pair of singles.
Ryan Mclaughlin tallied three hits in the win and came around to score three runs.
The NYU pitching staff struggled early in the contest, but only allowed two runs in the final four innings after the squad's bats broke the game open. Zach Cohen struck out three in a pair of scoreless innings to earn his first mound victory of the season.
The 30 runs scored by the Violets were the second most in NCAA Division III this season, only trailing a 32-run performance by Sewanee earlier this month.
NYU wraps up its Florida trip on Friday when it heads to Winter Haven to take on Rowan University at 12:30pm.
