The Case Western Reserve University baseball team returned home to Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, picking up a sweep of a doubleheader against SUNY Fredonia with a 19-0 win in the opening game, followed by a 5-3 come-from-behind victory in the second game of the day.

The Spartans have now won four-straight games and six-of-seven overall to improve to 10-6 on the season.  CWRU also remained perfect at Nobby's Ballpark this season, raising its home record to 4-0.  Fredonia dropped to 9-7 overall with the pair of losses.

Senior second baseman Rocco Maue drove in six runs over the two games, and sophomore outfielder/ catcher Jake Ryan collected six hits in 10 at bats, including three doubles, raising his batting average to .380 for the season, and increasing his team-leading RBI total to 21.  Sophomore shortstop Jacob Kucia picked up hits in each contest, running his hitting streak to nine games, the longest this season by a CWRU player.

Game 1: CWRU 19, Fredonia 0
Maue homered twice, and the Spartans matched their season high for runs in a game during a 19-0 victory over Fredonia in the first game of the day.

Maue was five-for-seven at the plate with two home runs, two triples, four runs scored and five runs batted in.  Ryan added a four-for-five performance with two doubles and four runs scored, senior third baseman Jacob Kucia went three-for-five with four runs and two RBIs, including a double and a triple, and sophomore first baseman Benjamin Stawicki and junior center fielder Samuel Neal each drove in three runs in the game.  CWRU totaled 22 hits in the contest against Blue Devil pitching.

Sophomore Matt Levine added seven shutout innings on the mound, allowing just four hits and one walk, and striking out five batters.  He needed just 90 pitches to pick up the victory to improve to 2-1 on the year, while lowering his ERA to 1.02.

After two scoreless innings, the Spartans broke out for nine runs in the bottom of the third, sending 14 batters to the plate during the frame.  Stawicki started the scoring with an RBI groundout, and Maue highlighted the inning with a bases-loaded triple that put CWRU in front 6-0 at the time.

Maue led off both the fifth and sixth innings with solo home runs, as the Spartans scored five more in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh to run away with the victory.  Freshman Keaton Stankowski closed out the win with scoreless innings pitched in the eighth and ninth.

Maue is now tied for the team lead with three home runs this season. 

Fredonia started Sam Cestra suffered the loss in the first game of the day, dropping to 2-1 on the year.

Game 2: CWRU 5, Fredonia 3
Behind another strong relief appearance from junior southpaw Scott Kutschke, CWRU battled back from an early 3-0 deficit in game two to defeat Fredonia 5-3 in the late affair.

CWRU junior starter Casey McConihe allowed a three-run second inning, but kept the Blue Devils off the board in his final two frames of work.  Kutschke would enter the contest in the fifth, and pitch five scoreless innings, scattering six hits and a walk and striking out seven batters in the game.

The Spartans' bats, which were quiet through the first four innings, woke up in the bottom of the fifth against relievers Chris Kutcha and Nick Ciraolo.  Maue cut the lead to 3-1 with a one-out sacrifice fly, and Ryan followed with a two-out double to bring the Spartans back within a run.

In the bottom of the sixth, a one-out bases-loaded single by Lott drove in two runs and gave the Spartans their first lead of the game, 4-3.  Ryan added on a run with an RBI single that plated Lott, as CWRU went ahead 5-3 heading into the seventh.

Kutschke would hold the lead the rest of the game, earning the win to improve to 4-0 on the year, while lowering his ERA to a team-best 0.42 through six relief appearances and 21.2 innings of work out of the bullpen.

Ryan, freshman outfielder Nick Sellitto (making the first start of his career) and Lott each picked up two of the Spartans' nine hits in the game, with Ryan and Lott each driving in a pair of runs.

Ciraolo suffered the loss in relief for Fredonia, as his record fell to 2-1 on the year with the setback.

The Spartans will return to action tomorrow, hosting St. John Fisher College for a pair of games.  The doubleheader will begin with a seven-inning affair starting at noon, to be followed by a nine-inning game immediately after.
