Northboro, MA --- Junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) went 2-for-4 including a three-run home run and struck out 11 batters as second-seeded WPI knocked off third-seeded, and nationally-ranked, Babson, 5-1, in Game 3 of the NEWMAC Baseball Championship Friday at the New England Baseball Complex.

The Engineers (23-14) will face fourth-seeded MIT tomorrow at approximately 3pm at Wheaton while Babson (30-6), who is fourth in the NCAA New England regional rankings and seventh in a pair of national coaches' polls, will take on the top-seeded Lyons at noon. Wheaton is second in the New England regional rankings and MIT is 13th.

Larson belted what proved to be all WPI needed offensively in the bottom of the first. Babson later put its run on the board thanks to a double by junior Sean Harrington (Walpole, MA) in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) responded for WPI with an RBI single in the home half of the frame. Senior Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) then made it 5-1 with a solo shot to right center in the sixth.

Freshman Martin McCormack (Quincy, MA) stole a base for WPI while Harrington, who was one of seven Beavers to log a hit, doubled for Babson.

Senior Dominic Fusco (North Haven, CT) closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth for WPI. Babson senior Michael Genaro (Greenwich, CT) struck out seven in the start for the guests and junior Michael Nocchi (Manasquan, NJ) also faced the minimum in the final frame.
