ORANGE, Calif. – Head coach Scott Laverty won the 500th game of his coaching career as the Chapman University Panthers rolled to a 9-3 series-clinching win over La Verne on Sunday. Senior Riley Glenn picked up his third win of the season on the mound.

Glenn turned in a solid pitching performance while the offense use two big innings to pull away for the win. After getting in and out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning, Glenn settled in for a solid day. He went seven strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four.

Chapman put up three runs in the third after graduate transfer Nick Kondo launched a home run to left to lead off the inning. With two on and two later in the third, junior Cooper Foard singled in Drew Littwin and sophomore Davis Mieliwocki doubled in Hank Zeisler for a 3-0 lead.

All of La Verne's runs came in the fifth inning. Glenn had retired eight consecutive batters heading into the frame but the Leopard led off with back-to-back singles to stage the threat. Both runners came home when the throw from a sacrifice bunt went up the line and the third run came home on the ensuing groundout.

Chapman responded with four runs in the sixth, taking advantage of two La Verne errors in the inning. Junior Brad Shimabuku had an RBI-single and Mack Cheli drove in another run. Chapman's final to runs came home in the eighth on a failed pick off attempt.

The Panthers tallied ten hits and only struck out just twice. Shimabuku and Littwin each had two-hit days. For the second consecutive game, La Verne was held to just singles by the Panther pitching staff. Sophomore Grant Manning and freshman Warner Rhodes combined for two scoreless innings to close the book on the series.

Baseball will look to win its third straight SCIAC series \next weekend against Redlands/ The series starts on Friday with a 3 p.m. game at Hart Park.
