Tommy Moore Jr. Pitches Dutchmen To Win At York

YORK, Pa. – Tommy Moore Jr. pitched seven strong innings to lead the Lebanon Valley College baseball team to an 8-1 victory over York College of Pennsylvania in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener.
 
The Dutchmen (12-8, 1-0 MACC) won a rematch of last year's conference championship series in the first of two meetings between the teams this week. The Spartans (8-10, 0-1 MACC) got on the board first with a run on two hits in the bottom of the first. LVC did most of their damage in the middle innings scoring twice in the fourth to take the lead and added four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Dutchmen scored again in the eighth to set the final.
 
Inside the Box Score

  • Moore struck out seven and allowed just four hits and one walk. He struck out the side in the fourth and didn't allow a hit after a leadoff single in the third inning.
  • Connor Smith had a great day in his return to the lineup after missing a couple of games. He knocked in LVC's first run with a double to right center in the fourth. Smith then hit a ball into the hole between first and second in the fifth for a single with Mike Bulgia coming around to score from second on the play.
  • Shane Stossel knocked in two runs with a ball off the fence in left center in the fifth. Ryan Murphy and Nico Santoro both knocked in runs with groundouts to the middle infield.
  • Luke Blair had two doubles and scored two runs batting ninth in the order. Max Kaplan was hit twice and knocked in the final run of the game with an eighth inning double down the line in left.
  • Bulgia walked twice and scored both times he was on base while Dave Mangold also had two runs scored.
  • Michael Williams pitched two shutdown innings in relief. He struck out one and allowed just two hits.

Who's Next
LVC will be back at McGill Field tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch against Gettysburg College. The Dutchmen will then host York on Friday before hosting Messiah for a pair of nine inning games on Saturday.
