Northboro, MA -- Andrew Brooks (Millis, MA) stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth and delivered for the WPI baseball team on Wednesday night, driving in the game-winning run as the Engineers erased a nine-run deficit to come away with the walkoff 11-10 victory over Amherst.  

Amherst College (4-6) started things off with a nine-run first inning, but the Engineers (9-5) chipped away and thanks to a five RBI effort from Andrew Cash (Marlboro, MA) and two RBI hits from Brooks and Michael Fraser (Mashpee, MA) in the bottom of the ninth to come away with the victory.  

The RBI single was Brooks' first hit of the outing as he finished the afternoon 1-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and one run scored. Fraser was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Cash finished with a 3-for-5 outing driving in the five runs and scoring another two. Cash's hits came via an RBI double and a pair of two-run blasts. All together the Engineers put up 14 hits in the outing.  

Seven different Engineers combined for the victory on the mound. Andrew Gray (Millersville, MD) got the start before Matt Penkala (Warren, RI), Owen Radcliffe (Holliston, MA), Ryan Malkowski (Hubbardston, MA), Alexander Mondro (Westford, MA), and Carter Bach (Albany, NY) coming on in relief. Noah Pins (Holden, MA) stepped to the mount in the ninth, holding Amherst to no runs, no hits, and no errors, giving WPI a chance to win it, while picking up the victory, his second of the year.  

Amherst was paced by a 3-for-5 effort from leadoff hitter Jack Boyle (Staten Island, NY), driving in two runs and scoring another three. Five different Mammoths came to the mound in the outing, with Ian Donahue (Tokyo, Japan) ultimately earning the loss, giving up the game-winning run in the ninth inning.  

Amherst put up a nine spot in the top of the first via five hits and a costly error as 11 different Mammoths came to the plate. WPI was not able to respond until the bottom of the third inning when DJ Brooks (Danvers, MA) and Cash ripped RBI shots to make it a 9-2 ballgame.  

WPI added another run in the sixth using a Fraser sac fly, and another four runs in the seventh via a Cash homer, and a Joe Salvon (Longmeadow, MA) double to right center to edge closer and make it a 9-7 game. Amherst got one back in the top of the eighth, but a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning made it a 10-9 game, setting up the Engineers for the walk off win.  

WPI returns to the diamond on Friday, April 1 when they take on New England College at Clark  at 6pm while Amherst will face Wesleyan, also on Friday night, to kick off a three-game NESCAC series with Cardinals at 4pm.
