Fleck and Gass Lead Baseball to Doubleheader Split at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – Christopher Gass and Jon Fleck were a combined 8-for-10 with nine RBIs and eight runs scored in game-two to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a doubleheader split at Neumann University in Atlantic East play on Saturday.

Fleck tied the school record for career doubles with his 45th in game-one but it was not enough as Neumann claimed the 6-2 victory. The Cyclones exploded for a season-high 19 runs in a 19-4 game-two victory.

Game One Recap (Neumann Won 6-2):
Neumann jumped out to an early lead in this one with a single run in the second and three runs in third. Andrew Curran had three RBIs as the Knights built their 4-0 lead.

Fleck tied Michael Fasano's (2007-10) school record for career doubles as he led off the fourth with his 45th career two-bagger. He crossed the plate later in the frame on Brandon Smith's RBI groundout.

Centenary made it a 4-2 game in the fifth as Paul Links singled to left and Anthony Vassallo scored on the play.

Neumann tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning and closed out a 6-2 victory.

Will Hart tossed a complete game to earn the win for the Knights. He allowed two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Zach Gehman took the loss for the Cyclones as he gave up four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of action.

Curran had two hits and three RBIs for Neumann.

Links contributed two hits and one RBI while Fleck and Vassallo each had two hits and a run scored for the Cyclones.

Game Two Recap (Centenary Won 19-4):
The Cyclones quickly went to work in this one as RBI singles from Gass and Smith in the top of the first gave the visitors an early 2-0 lead.

Neumann got one back in the bottom of the first and made it a 2-1 game.

Centenary increased its lead to 6-1 in the second as Fleck smashed a one-out grand slam over the fence in right field.

The Cyclones put two on the board in the fourth as Jake Keenan had a sac fly and Smith had an RBI double.

Centenary scored a single run in the fifth and another in the sixth and led 10-1 in the contest.

Neumann scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and made it a 10-4 game.

The Cyclones scored three runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings of the game to close out a 19-4 win. Gass had a pair of RBIs in that stretch while Fleck added a two-run single.

Keenan got the win as he went five plus solid innings and gave up four runs on five hits and struck out four. Anthony Ranaudo went three scoreless innings in relief as he didn't allow a hit and Yonelvi Puello pitched a scoreless ninth. Zach Mullins took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in three innings.

The top three batters in the Cyclone line-up were a combined 12-for-15 with 10 RBIs and 12 run scored.

Gass was 4-for-5 with five runs scored and three RBIs for the Cyclones. His five runs scored are tied for second in single-game history and the most by a Cyclone since 2004.

Fleck went 4-for-5 with six RBIs and three runs scored. He is the second Cyclone this season to record six RBIs in a game (Links) and are tied four fourth in single-game history at Centenary.

Links went 4-for-5 with four runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Smith also had four hits on the day and two RBIs.

Centenary will be back in action on Friday, April 8 when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy at 3 p.m.
