BOSTON, Mass. – Cameron McMullen, Ph.D., Assistant Head Baseball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Chapman University, has been named the Head Baseball Coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Director of Athletics Cheryl Aaron made the announcement.
"We are excited to have Cameron joining Wentworth as our next head baseball coach," said Aaron. "Cameron brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in recruiting and tactics, along with strong relational skills. We cannot wait for him to get started with our team."
McMullen was in his second stint with the Panthers, joining the program prior to the 2017-18 season as a volunteer assistant coach, where, among his duties, he was the infield coach. When he returned to Chapman in the summer of 2019, in addition to his recruiting coordinator role, he was also the offensive coordinator/third base coach (2020-2022) and the catching coach (2020-2021), while assuming the role of infield coach during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. During his time, the Panthers won a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships and made three trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. This past season Chapman advanced to the Super Regionals in LaGrange, Ga. Outside of the on the field success the Panthers had, 51 student-athletes earn Academic All-SCIAC honors and the program earned American Baseball Coaches Association Academic Excellence Awards for four straight seasons. The 2022 recruiting class was noted as No. 2 in the country by Perfect Game Baseball.
In between his stints at Champman, McMullen served as an Assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Puget Sound during the 2019 season, where he served as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. The 2019 incoming recruiting class was ranked No. 28, while three position players earned All-Northwest Conference honors.
McMullen spent five seasons at the University of Nevada, serving as the Director of Baseball Operations and Bullpen Coach for four seasons and the 2017 campaign as a volunteer assistant coach, working with the outfielders. As the director of baseball operations, he was part of a program that saw six student-athletes drafted into professional baseball. During the 2017 season, two student-athletes earned All-Mountain West honors.
A graduate of Huntington Beach (Calif.) High School, McMullen played two seasons at Golden West College before transferring to UC Riverside for a season and the University of Massachusetts to complete his career. He graduated from UMass in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in history and earned a Master's degree in teaching from the University of Southern California in 2011 before earning a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Nevada in 2016.
Off the field, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Chapman since 2019 in the Department of Leadership Studies, Communication Studies, and Physical Activity. He conducted leadership development research at the University of Washington during the 2018-2019 academic year and also lectured on coaching and leadership at the University of Washington's Intercollegiate Leadership Graduate Program.
