Walk Off Win Gives Polars Baseball a Split With Central

Davenport, FL – The Polars Baseball team faced off with Central College on Friday falling in game one 7-2 and winning the second game in walk off fashion 10-9.

Game one saw Central take the early lead scoring the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. The Polars answered right back in the top of the 3rd inning as Cody Csulak singled with two outs and Cael Magill doubled to drive in Csulak to tie the game at 1 apiece. Crown took the lead right back in the top of the 4th inning as Seth Betts scored off of a wild pitch. Yet the momentum went all towards Central as the Dutch scored 6 unanswered runs to take the lead 7-2. Crown left three runners on base and wasn't able to climb back into the game falling by a score of 7-2.

4 Polars pitched in the contest with Jefferson Barmoy getting the start. Barmoy pitched 4 innings only allowing one earned run and struck out 2 batters on a total of 45 pitches. Liam Jones pitched 1 innings allowing 2 earned runs striking out two as well. Drew Girtz pitched two-thirds of an inning and Bryan Bullock finished the last out for the Polars.

The second game saw Crown's bats come alive early in the contest. The Polars scored two in the bottom of the first inning after four walks and single from Howie Hatton. The bottom of the second saw the Polars add four more runs. These coming off a Howie Hatton double, Rhys Dewick single, and a Jack Becker single to put the score at six to zero and Crown tacked on one more in the bottom of the third to put the score at 7-0. Things started to unravel a bit for the Polars as Central scored 9 runs in the top of the 5th inning giving the Dutch their first lead of the game and Crown answered the call tying it back up at 9 in the bottom of the 5th. After a quiet sixth inning Crown had the chance to put the game away with bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh with Mason Brock at the plate. With a full count and the game on the line Brock watched ball four cross the plate and Crown walked off with the 10-9 win.

Howie Hatton once again led the offensive effort going 3 for 3 with two runs batted in and four runs scored. jack Becker also had a two hit game going 2-3 with one RBI.
Tyler VanCise started on the mound going 3 innings not allowing any runs on 2 hits. Caleb Keen and Danny Gallardo both pitched an inning of their own. Charlie Joyce finished the game on the bump throwing two innings not giving up any hits.

Crown moves to 5-3 on the season and returns to action tomorrow March 15th for an 9:30am contest with the University of Southern Maine.
