Keuka College Baseball Falls at Hobart College 8-4

GENEVA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team dropped a non-conference game at Hobart College 8-4 on Wednesday night.  

Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) led the Keuka College (5-17, 1-8 Empire 8) offense with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored. Nolan Quinn (Aurora, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) also posted a two-hit day for the Wolves.

The Wolves took the lead first on Wednesday as Tyler Lewandowski led off the third inning with a double into the left field corner. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) and scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Tryon (Elmira, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison).

Keuka College added to their lead an inning later. RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) led off with a walk and later moved to second on a single by Donald Nemeth (Guilderland, N.Y. / Guilderland). They both would score on Samuel O'Neil's (Macedon, N.Y. / Ruben A. Cirillo) first career triple to give the Wolves a 3-0 advantage.

Hobart answered back in the bottom of the inning as they took advantage of two Keuka errors and three free passes to first to score five runs and take the lead.

The score would remain until the eighth inning. RJ Murphy led off with a single. Keuka would load the bases with one out. Samuel O'Neil worked a bases-loaded walk to score a run and cut the margin to one. However, Hobart would get the next two batters to strike out to retain the lead. The Statesmen would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the inning and continue onto the 8-4 victory.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College is now 0-2 all-time against Hobart College with both games coming within the last week. The Wolves fall to 2-47 all-time against the Liberty League.
  • Donald Nemeth extended his hitting streak to eight games, setting a new personal best
  • RJ Murphy scored a pair of runs for the Wolves
  • Ethan Tillotson (Pavilion, N.Y. / Pavilion) struck out three and did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings of relief
  • Anthony Sciacca (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Farmingdale) got his first career start on the mound. The freshman went one time through the order without allowing a run.
  • Blake Frank (Franklinville, N.Y. / Franklinville) struck out a career-best three during his inning of relief work

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are back in action for a key Empire 8 series this weekend. Keuka College will play at Russell Sage College on Friday and Saturday. They will play a single game on Friday afternoon and then a doubleheader on Saturday. All three games will be played at the University at Albany.
