Mustangs open series against Eagles short

St. DAVID'S, Pa. – Stevenson baseball (9-25, 4-15) opened their series to close the season against the Eastern University Eagles (18-19. 8-11) in conference action. The final score was 10-2.

Despite early runs scored by the Eagles, the Mustangs kept the team at bay in the opening innings. In the top of the fourth, sophomore left fielder Kaige Garrity hit a base hit double to left field, before the inning quickly closed.

Coming in as a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth, senior second baseman Ryan Lassiter hit another double for the Mustangs following a single from junior third baseman and shortstop Brandon Perillo. This effort was carried into the top of the sixth, when the Mustangs took advantage of an Eagles error. Sophomore second baseman and center fielder Collin Palmieri got on base and allowed sophomore designated hitter Vince Licor to return home.

In the top of the eighth, the Mustangs got their second and final run on a single from Perillo, allowing the bases to be loaded and sophomore catcher John Padousis to score from third.

With the effort at a high, the Mustangs fell just short of scoring in the top of the ninth, bringing the final score to 10-2.

Perillo secured one RBI on two hits. Four Mustangs appeared on the mound, with first-year Chris Fortunato taking the loss against six runs and 4.0 IP. Junior Carl Sansbury struck out two against three runs while junior Zack Majeski struck out one, allowing a walk.

The Mustangs will host the Eagles in a conference doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, April 27 beginning at 12 p.m. at East Campus.
