Shreveport – The Centenary baseball team opened its 2025 season with an impressive 10-5 victory over the LaGrange College Panthers on Saturday afternoon on day two of the Gents Classic at Shehee Stadium.

The Diamond Gents (1-0) will play two games on Sunday – versus Huntingdon College at 12:30 p.m. and Rhodes College at 3:45 p.m. The Panthers (0-2) were receiving votes in the inaugural  D3baseball.com/NCBWA Preseason Top 25 and Rhodes, Centenary's final opponent of the weekend is ranked 24th in the poll.

Centenary finished with 13 hits, drew six walks, and had three extra-base hits while LaGrange had 15 hits but left 12 men on base and struck out six times. The Panthers drew three walks, had one extra-base hit, and did not commit an error. LaGrange grounded into five double plays including three-consecutive inning-ending DP's in the games' first three frames.

Senior LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas) started on the mound and picked up the win as he worked six innings and allowed two runs, both earned, on nine hits with three BB and four K. He faced 29 batters, hitting three, and threw a wild pitch. Herrera threw 96 pitches (57 strikes).

Three Centenary relievers – junior P Zachary Malone (Hallsville, Texas), freshman P Roman Ardoin (Lumberton, Texas), and sophomore P Logan Schmidt (Pearland, Texas) worked the final three innings and allowed just three earned runs and six hits with no BB and two K's.

Five Centenary players collected two hits each and freshman IF Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.) went 2-4 with four RBI and a run scored in his collegiate debut. Freshman IF Brody Hebert (Houma, La.) finished 2-3 with a solo home run, a BB, and a run scored.
