On a Tear!

MARYVILLE - The Scots Took down Transylvania 5-1 to earn their 29th victory of the year, one shy of the school record 30 set last season.

Freshman starting pitcher Logan Denton earned his first career pitching victory, throwing 5.0 innings and giving up just six hits and no earned runs. He struck out three batters along the way. Relief pitcher Pete Pappas, also a freshman, earned his first career save, pitching 4.0 innings with two strikeouts and just one hit.

Frank Derner was 1-3 with a walk on the day, and scoring his 32nd and 33rd runs of the year, the third most on the team. Brayden Evans was 2-4 with an RBI, and Colin Dunworth scored his 41st run of the season, the most on the team and third most in the league. Dunworth had two hits on the day, both doubles, to get to 56 hits and 10 doubles, both are most on the team and his 56 hits are second most in the CCS. He leads the conference in SLG% at .664. Det Dettwiller also had a solid outing, going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Maryville's only run given up on the day came in the first inning when a ball sailed past third base for an error, allowing Transy's runner to score. The Scots held the Pioneers scoreless the rest of the night and only gave up five hits after the first.

It took until the fourth inning for Maryville's bats to wake up, led off in the inning by a Colin Dunworth double, and then two consecutive walks by Ashton Whiteaker and Frank Derner, loading the bases.

Dett Detwiller singled to right field and got to second on the throw down at home that got Whiteaker out after Dunworth scored the Scots first run of the game. Transy then made a pitching change and got the second out of the inning on a ground out by Zach Devries that scored Derner from third.

Maryville would plate another run in the fifth after Matt Hall led off the inning with a double. Reece Jordan was walked next, and Hall would advance to third on a Dunworth fielder's choice that got Jordan out at second. Ashton Whiteaker would bring home Hall on a ground out to the short stop. 3-1 Scots.

Frank Derner and Jay Pichardo would both score insurance runs for the Scots in the eighth, making the tally 5-1 heading into the final inning.

The Pioneers would have a spark of life to begin the ninth with a lead off double, but Pappas would end the inning and the game with a ground out to second and then two straight strikeouts.

MC has now won 14 straight games, surpassing its 13-consecutive-win streak last season. This streak is the longest since at least 2011.
Maryville will now head to Piedmont to close out the regular season with a three game slate before hosting the CCS Tournament next week.
