Ithaca Advances to Championship and Hangs 10 in the Sixth to Down Skidmore, 15-5

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team will play in its fourth straight Liberty League final as the Bombers took down Skidmore, 15-5, on Friday in cold and rainy conditions at Booth Field on the campus of Cornell University. Ithaca will face the winner of Skidmore and RPI for the championship tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.

Skidmore got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as a lead off walk moved over to third and then scored on a sacrifice fly.

The Bombers threatened in the bottom half with two runners on but were unable to score. IC then loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning and plated a run as Ethan McDonough was hit by a pitch and Ethan Daddabbo came home to tie the game at 1-1.

The Thoroughbreds went back ahead, 2-1, in the fourth with a lead-off solo home run from Eddie Galvao. IC tied the game back up in the fifth on a bunt single by Collin Feeney with McDonough just ninety feet away, but the Bombers left the bases loaded.

Skidmore responded by loading the bases in the top of the sixth with one out, but an infield fly and a strikeout on a clock violation got the Bombers out of the jam to keep the contest tied at 2-2. Colin Leyner relieved Reed Bailey in the inning after Skidmore's first two runners reached base.

The Bombers then broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth by scoring 10 runs on six hits to make  it 12-2. IC began the frame by drawing three hit by pitches and three walks to plate a couple runs and then the gloomy sky, accompanied by rain and strong winds, led to two would-be routine fly balls dropping for base hits. Connor Pedersen hit a triple to center to drive in two runs, while Brawdy ripped a double to right to highlight the inning.

After Skidmore belted a solo home run in the seventh, IC answered with three runs in the bottom half to make it 15-3. Daddabbo lifted a sac fly to left, while Brawdy doubled home another run and McDermott capped off the inning with an RBI single to right.

Skidmore scored twice in the top of the ninth to account for the 15-5 final tally.

The Bombers utilized 11 walks and six hit by pitches in the contest, to go along with 12 base hits. IC also stole six bases.

Leyner earned the win in 4.0 innings of relief with three strikeouts, while Bailey fanned eight over 5.0 innings in his start.
