BOISE, Idaho – When Casey Coberly reports back to Puget
Sound for his senior year, he will bring a summer batting title
with him. Coberly hit .387 in the Boise Summer League to capture
the batting title and All-League honors.
At Puget Sound, Coberly is a starter in the Logger baseball
team’s outfield as well as on the football team’s
defensive line. On Aug. 17, he will report to the Loggers football
camp as a team captain.
The Boise Summer League is a competitive, wood-bat league for
collegiate players across the nation. The BSL featured five teams
with student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III as well as
NAIA and junior colleges.
Coberly’s batting title came after he hit at a .387 clip to
end the year. He also led the league with 35 runs scored and ranked
fifth with 17 stolen bases.
“Winning a batting title in a Collegiate League is
special,” commented Loggers head coach Brian Billings.
“Casey is a hard worker and this showcases the type of hitter
that he has been for the Loggers over the last three years.
I’m excited to have him back for one more season.”
Coberly was also one of five outfielders named to the All-League
team when the season drew to a close last weekend. He played in 27
of 33 games for the Hampton Owls, who finished with a 15-18 overall
record.
Coberly was a regular starter for the Loggers last year as they
finished in second-place in the Northwest Conference. It was the
Loggers best finish in the NWC since moving to NCAA Division
III.
