Virginia the focus for games on Wednesday

Lynchburg got off to a tough start to begin the 2013 season, dropping a pair of games to St. Andrews , 1-0 and 5-4, in non-conference action. Both were seven inning contests.       

Greensboro exploded for 19 hits on Wednesday afternoon to take down cross town rival Guilford (1-2 overall) 14-9.  Greensboro fell behind by scores of 3-0 and 7-2 but put up four runs in the sixth and seven in the eighth to cement the comeback. Austin Catherina posted a Pride team best four hits in five at-bats with two runs scored and an RBI.  Brandon Matthews earned the win in 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. 

Roanoke picked up its first win of the season after scoring in the top of the ninth to defeat Ferrum, 2-1.  The Maroons now have a record of 1-2, while the Panthers are 1-1.  The win marks the first victory for Roanoke in the Matt McGuire era.  This is also the first win over Ferrum for the Maroons since the start of the 2010 season.  In other games on Wednesday, Southern Va. defeated Virginia University of Lynchburg 19-0, 22-2, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Whitman split a doubleheader with the Stags taking game one 12-0 and the Missionaries won 8-3.
