Head Coach Jesse Eikum and his Presentation Saints began the 2013 season with a twin bill in Mall of America Field. The Saints got a combined strong pitching performance in the first game, coming away with a 1-0 shutout victory. The Saints held a 5-2 in game two, but Bethel plated 5 unanswered runs to earn a split of the doubleheader, 7-5.
Averett rallied from a five-run deficit to beat Eastern Mennonite 7-6 in non-conference action at Owen-Fulton Field. The victory extended the Cougars' winning streak to six games. Jimbo Newcomb led Averett's offense with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, while Andrew Kirks went 3-for-5. Averett finished with 13 hits as a team. Chris Moyer pitched the final seven innings to earn the victory.
Led by a fine starting effort by southpaw Connor Harris, four
George Fox pitchers combined to hand Corban its first loss of the
season as the Bruins blanked the visiting Warriors 8-0 on the first
day of the Cascade/Northwest Conference Baseball Challenge at Morse
Field. Harris worked five solid innings, scattering six hits with
two walks and two strikeouts.
Taryn Hayden's 2-RBI single in the bottom of the third inning
drove in the eventual game-winning run as Ferrum picked up a 7-2
non-conference win over Maine-Presque Isle at Panther Field. Hayden
went 2-3 with two RBI. Jeffery Swoope went 2-4 with a pair of runs.
Cam Morrell went 2-2 for Maine-Presque Isle.
