Keene State sweeps, UWW, UWSP opens with wins

Concordia (Wisc.) found itself three outs away from being swept by Augsburg Thursday afternoon in Tucson. Fortunately the Falcons bats responded with a two-run bottom of the seventh in game two, splitting a twinbill with the Auggies. Sophomore Nathan Thyssen delivered a game-winning double for the Falcons. CUW won game two 5-4 after falling by a 10-3 score in the opener.

Susquehanna out-hit York 24-10 and defeated York (Pa.) 25-9 on the road. Ryan Beckwith earned the win but eight pitchers saw action for SU alone. Matt Cassinelli went 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI's and one run. Tom Giaimo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Zach Leone and Tom Shields went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs each.

The No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks took an early lead and didn't look back in a 9-2 triumph over Anderson in the team's 2016 season opener at Chain O' Lakes Stadium. Playing in front of more than a dozen professional scouts, Lake Bachar picked up the win, tossing 5.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits and striking out six.

King's (Pa.) scored seven runs in the first inning and used five pitchers to shutout visiting Penn State Worthington Scranton 18-0 in a darkness shortened game at Lipo Field in Wilkes-Barre. The game was called after the Lions batted in the seventh inning when the umpires ruled it was too dark to continue playing. The Monarchs are outscoring opponents 26-5 in the first inning this season.

Methodist emerged victorious, 8-7, after 10 innings over host Guilford on Thursday. Alex Dockery finished 4-for-5 with three RBI and scored once and Pete Wildeboer was 3-for-6 with two BRI and a run scored for the Monarchs.

Jesse Bogacz struck out a career-high 11 batters as the Kenyon earned a 5-2 win over Earlham.  Bogacz's previous best came last season when the Bayside, New York native struck out eight on three separate occasions.

Keystone’s bats came alive in a big way as the Giants pounded out 24 hits while cruising to a 19-3 victory over Nichols in Florida. Nate Ross and Julian Lanfranco recorded four hits apiece for Keystone, Alex Herceg and Billy Nelson added three hits, while Louis Reyes, Brandon Eady, and Robbie Nardelli connected for a pair of hits each in the win.

Springfield opened their game with New Paltz State with two runs and closed it scoring the final six as the Pride erased a six run deficit as the nine inning contest ended in a tie. Springfield fell two errors shy of a triple double with double digits in runs, hits but only 8 errors on the day.

The College of New Jersey scored double digit runs for the sixth time in eight games as they defeated Eastern Connecticut State 10-9. TCNJ rapped out 18 hits and Steven Volpe won his second game of the season. Matt Curry pitched a scoreless ninth to record the save.

Ferrum trailed 3-2 after four and a half innings, but scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth en route to a 17-7 shellacking of #11 Frostburg State at Panther Field. It was the first-ever baseball game between the two schools.

Rhode Island College catcher Tyler Rains and designated hitter Frank Pettinato each belted a home run and drove in three runs as Anchorman played to a 10-10 tie (10 innings) with intra-state rival Roger Williams at Anchorman Field. The game advanced to the eleenth inning, with each team scoring two runs in the stanza before the game was called due to darkness, reverting back to the last completed frame. RIC had a man on second with no outs when the game was called due to darkness.

Ben Moxley allowed six hits and two runs in five and two thirds innings for his second win of the season as nationally top-ranked Cortland defeated Clarkson, 5-3, at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Kalamazoo got its spring trip to Florida started on a high note as the Hornets defeated Knox 13-3 forcing a seven inning mercy and evened their record to 2-2.

Freshman Konnor Zickefoose continued his multiple-hit game hitting streak to lift the Panthers to a 10-2 victory over Ithaca at Hart Park. Zickefoose finished the game 4-for-5, scoring four runs and stealing two bases for Chapman.

The Mules came back from six runs down to defeat Messiah, 12-11, on a home run by Matt Riebesell in the bottom of the eighth. Muhlenberg, which had lost five in a row - two by one run, two by two runs and one that they led going into the late innings - got exactly the type of win it needed in a wild game that featured 23 runs on 24 hits, including three home runs.

Keene State combined for 21 hits in a doubleheader sweep, 8-0 and 8-4 over New England College at Chain O' Lakes Stadium. The runs were more than needed as the Owl starters, Michael Crimi and Tim Coppinger combined for 19 strikeouts in 12 innings.

Anthony Feltre had his 100th hit in a Ranger uniform on Thursday.

The 100th hit of senior second baseman Anthony Feltre's career was one of 17 for Drew, who won its 2016 home opener at Doc Young Field in a slugfest, 13-10, over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). Eight different Rangers recorded hits, while seven drove in runs in the high-scoring affair.

Ripon's day started their slate of games a lot better than they finished it. Randy Finger hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat RPI 4-3 early in the afternoon, but that was followed by a 7-0 loss to Benedictine.

Rutgers-Newark ripped 18 hits in a 6-3 win over Whittier in California. Anthony Rosoline earned his third victory of the season, going eight innings and allowing three earned runs on eight hits, and Ryan MacFarlane earned the save, working around one hit in the ninth inning.

Kyle Kozak and Austin Darmawan recorded four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored each to lead the No. 22-ranked Washington (Mo.) to a 19-9 win over Wheaton (Mass.) at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. Washington ended a three game skid with the win.

McDaniel shutout Utica in the opener before using a walkoff hit to cap the sweep at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Green Terror won the opener 4-0 before completing the sweep with a 7-6 win behind an Eric Grantland walkoff single in the seventh. Cameron Bahr led the way for McDaniel with three hits in the twinbill.

Penn State Behrend worked to a sweep of Waynesburg, winning 6-5 and 11-0 respectively. Game one was a come from behind win for the Lions and the nightcap saw all phases clicking. Phil Myers threw a six-hit complete game shutout in game two to complete the sweep. Myers was dealing, giving up no runs and striking out seven batters.
