RIVERDALE, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics and Recreation, Laura Pruitt has announced John Muller as the new Head Coach for the CMSV Baseball program. Muller comes to CMSV after spending the past two seasons at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) as the programs pitching coach.
"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to take over as the head coach here at CMSV," said Coach Muller. "I feel I am ready and prepared for the challenges ahead of me and the Mount community can expect our team to be ready and prepared to compete this upcoming season."
Muller was a four-year star at STAC and ranks in the top-5 in eight offensive categories, including being the career leader in hits, total bases and doubles. Muller was inducted in the STAC Hall of Fame in 2011.
"I am very excited to welcome Coach Muller to the Mount Saint Vincent family," said Pruitt. "His motivation, drive and passion for teaching is very apparent and more importantly, his commitment to the holistic development of our student-athletes in the classroom, in the community and on the field, quickly identified him as the ideal leader of our program."
After graduating in 2007 from STAC with a degree in Criminal Justice, Muller was signed by the Chicago Cubs in 2007 and excelled becoming a Northwest League All-Star with the Boise Hawks in 2008 and a Frontier League All-Star with the Rockford Riverhawks. Muller continued to play professionally in the Atlantic and Northern Leagues and concluded his career with the Rockland Boulders, where he set a team record recording 16 strikeouts in a game.
"My staff and I are ready to get our hands on the team this fall and begin working," said Muller. "The team will be expected to compete daily both on the field and in the classroom to meet team and individual goals we set for them."
Currently Muller is the president and director of player development for Evolution Baseball Training, Inc., a business which Muller started in September 2015.
