D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, honoring performers at each position from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the ninth Team of the Week of the 2017 season.

Games of April 3-9, 2017

C  Pat Mollo, Sr., Illinois Wesleyan

Mollo drove in 15 runs and scored 11 as the Titans finished a record offensive weekend at Carroll. He batted .688 (11-for-16) with two doubles and five home runs.

1B  Mike Hammel, Sr. DePauw

Hammel batted .692 (9-for-13) with seven of his hits going for extra-bases. He slugged 1.923 with four home runs, a triple and two doubles. Hammel scored seven runs with 10 RBIs.

2B  Kyle Hartenstein, Jr., Mitchell

Hartenstein posted team highs in batting (.643 - 9-for-14), RBIs (8) and runs scored (9) last week as the Mariners went 3-0 and extended their winning streak to nine games. Hartenstein slugged 1.214 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .706.

SS  Matthew McCourt, So., Mt. Aloysius

McCourt had a fantastic week at the plate for the Mounties with 10 RBIs, 10 runs scored, four doubles, one triple and three home runs. He batted .500 (8-for-16) on the week with a 1.438 slugging percentage.

3B  Michael Majeta, So., North Central (Ill.)

Majeta hit for the cycle in game two of the doubleheader in North Central's sweep of then No. 14 Augustana on Sunday, capping the cycle with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth. For the week he batted .600 (12-for-20), with six runs and eight RBIs.

OF  Kenny Collins, Sr., Hamilton

Collins helped Hamilton to a 4-1 record last week, including a 7-5 win over No. 8 Oswego (he reached base four times in the game, including a single and triple). His six stolen bases raised his NESCAC-leading total to 13 and he's yet to be caught. He threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate to end the sixth inning against SUNY Polytechnic; the Continentals scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning. He batted .714 (10-for-14) with two RBIs and six runs on the week.

OF  Kurtis Kloke, Sr., Pacific (Ore.)

Kloke hit .400 (6-for-15) in the Boxers' four game road swing through California. He started the stretch of games with a three home run effort against Occidental on Friday. He added two more home runs over the weekend, ending with five and a slugging percentage of 1.400. Kloke scored and drove in eight.

OF  Nick Vento, Sr., Washington and Jefferson

Vento had a .583 batting average (7-for-12) and a 1.167 slugging percentage last week for the 3-0 Presidents. Vento had seven hits and scored seven runs, hitting two homers and a double, plus driving in three and stealing a base.

DH  Anthony Mercuri, Sr., Southern Vermont

Mercuri had a record-setting day on Monday in a big series-clinching NECC win for Southern Vermont over Newbury. He racked up eight runs batted in setting a new school record for SVC. Mercuri was 4-for-7 (.571) overall on the week with eight RBI's and four runs scored, slugging at 1.572 and registering a .625 on-base percentage.

SP  Kyle Bumpass, Jr., Illinois Tech

Bumpass tossed a seven-inning no-hitter in game one of a doubleheader, winning 3-0 on Friday. Bumpass had nine strikeouts, with one walk with two runners reaching by error.

SP  Cole Chang, So., Macalester

Chang threw a seven-inning no-hitter as the Macalester took two from Augsburg on Friday. In the 5-0 win, Chang faced 26 batters, with one walk and four hit-batsmen. He recorded 12 fly-ball outs and six groundouts while striking out three in seven innings.

SP  Kevin Connelly, So., Framingham State

In two appearances Connelly went 2-0 with two complete game shutout victories. He tossed seven innings and allowed just two hits with six strikeouts and four walks in 1-0 victory over Fitchburg State and closed the week with a complete game seven shutout innings in a 10-0 win over MCLA allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

SP  Jarod Deagan, Fr., Allegheny

Deagan had a pair of stellar starts for the Gators on the week. On Monday, in a 9-1 win over Kenyon, Deagan went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts. On Sunday against No. 7 Wooster, he was even more impressive, as he threw eight shutout innings and scattered four hits with five strikeouts. Between the fourth and eighth innings, Deagan retired 14 straight Wooster hitters, and faced just four batters over the minimum in his 8-inning outing that resulted in a tough-luck no-decision after the Fighting Scots scored three runs off the Gator bullpen in the ninth.

RP  Liam Killingstad, Jr., Case Western Reserve

Killingstad was perfect in his two appearances over the weekend, recording a pair of saves. The southpaw closed out a 5-3 win over the Violets in the opening game of the series on Friday, retiring all six batters he faced, and striking out a pair to pick up the save. He added a save on Saturday, helping the Spartans to a 2-1 win by getting the final out of the contest via a strikeout with the potential game-tying run on the basepaths.
