Wells rallied from an early four-run deficit and won the game with a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat visiting SUNY Canton 7-6 on Thursday at the Wells Turf Field. The winning run in the bottom of the 10th came across on a single to right field by Brandon Shirley to score Dylan Nolan. Nolan led off the inning with a double down the right field line and moved to third base on a balk.

No. 3 ranked UW-Whitewater picked up another marquee victory with an 8-1 triumph over 11th-ranked Washington & Jefferson, last year's national runner-up, at the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park. The Warhawks (3-0) broke open a close game with four runs in the seventh and added two more in the eighth to back a strong performance by junior pitcher Michael Kaska. Making his fourth career start, Kaska (1-0) allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out seven over seven shutout innings. Sophomore Riley Gruetzmacher tossed the final two frames in relief, striking out four over that span.
Junior shortstop Nick Schrader led the UW-Whitewater offense with three hits and one run batted in.

SUNY Old Westbury produced 11 hits in a 9-3 non-conference win over the Plymouth State Panthers (5-3) from Terry Park Sports Complex No. 3 in Fort Myers, Florida. Old Westbury (6-4-1) concluded play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic (Mar. 17-22) with a 3-4 record. Old Westbury starter Ryan Dunbar (9 H, 6 BB, 3 K) scattered six hits through six scoreless innings before surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks in the seventh to settle the 9-3 final. Vinny Trovato recorded the final five outs to preserve Dunbar's first-career win.
With the weather finally allowing for baseball in Illinois, sixth ranked Concordia-Chicago took to the field today against the North Park Vikings at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. Pitching was the story of the day for both teams, as CUC was able to push across two first inning runs. Four Cougar pitchers then combined for their third shutout of the season, downing North Park by a final score of 2-0. As a team, CUC combined for ten hits on the game. Noah Dressler took to the hill for his first start of the season. The sophomore went five innings, allowing just one fourth inning hit and no runs. Adam Schmitt followed by tossing an inning and a third of no run ball. Alex Meyers played the role of setup man, escaping a two on one out jam in the seventh, throwing an inning and two thirds of shutout ball. Mike Formella then shut the door for CUC picking up his fourth save.

Rivier scored eight runs in the seventh inning to pull away with a 15-10 non-conference victory over Newbury at the New England Baseball Complex. The Raiders pounded out 16 hits to improve to 2-9 on the season while the Nighthawks fall to 6-10. Sophomore Eric Maxfield went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and senior Tyler Ferdinand knocked in three RBI with a 3-for-5 showing at the dish. Sophomore Brandon Thibault also recorded three hits along with totaling four RBI and junior Brett Iannazzo plated two runs on his 2-for-5 night. Freshman Zachery Rodrigues earned the win, his second of the season, as he tossed six innings in relief. The right-hander allowed four runs on three hits and struckout nine.
Springfield earned their second tie of the season as its non-conference showdown against Fitchburg State concluded in a 5-5 draw at Archie Allen Field. The Pride now stand at 8-3-2 while the Falcons carry a 5-4-1 line out of the day. After the game was called due to darkness, it marks just the second time in the Springfield College baseball program's history, which dates back to 1904, that there have been multiple ties in a season. The other instance came in 1986 when the squad went 18-17-2. Brandon Russo had a strong day at the plate for Springfield as he went 3-for-5, while Chad Shade scored a pair of runs for the hosts. Six different pitchers toed the mound for the Pride, with no one working more than two innings.
Maryville opened their key USA South Athletic Conference series with Covenant with a 9-1 victory on Thursday evening on MC's Scotland Yard. Maryville took advantage of a four-run first inning and strong starting pitching by sophomore left-hander Anthony Rodriguez to move to 20-5 overall and 5-5 in USA South action. Rodriguez earned his second victory of the season tossing six complete innings, scattering five hits, striking out seven, while allowing only one earned run. MC senior right-hander Jerod Dickey earned his second save of the season going the final three shut-out innings striking out four while scattering only three hits.
Steady pitching and clutch offense helped propel Manchester to a sweep in its 2018 home opener. Senior Taylor Kopplin crafted his fifth career and second complete game effort of the season in game two against visiting Calvin. Dominating from the get-go in front of a happy crowd of just shy of 70 Black and Gold fans, he was nicked for only two hits and one earned run over six innings. Kopplin delivered 97 pitches, 62 of which were strikes, in the hour and a half masterpiece during which he struck out eight Knights. His offense put up enough of an attack for a 2-1 win that moved his season record to 2-1. Fellow Class of 2018 member Stephen Pinarski joined his staff mate with a 2-1 record after the Spartans rallied with two tallies in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-3 game one decision.
