Netkovick wins 100th with Elms

Holyoke, MA – Elms had their most consistent day of the year The Blazers showed solid pitching, timely hitting and great defense on their way to two big conference wins over visiting Newbury .

The Blazers played great ball in both games of the twin bill, displaying timely hitting, good pitching, and great defense. The team might have been more motivated to pick up the two wins than they normally would. Their coach was only two wins from a major milestone: his 100th career win.

Game 1 – Elms 7, Newbury 1

The Blazers got off to a quick start pushing two runs across the plate and three more on a Nate Ayala (Springfield, MA) double. Ayala would strike again in the 6th with a two run single giving Elms a 7-1 lead. Ayala would go 3-4 on the day and drive in 5 runs.

Brandon Bennett (Easthampton, MA) was outstanding in a complete game win for the Blazers.

Game 2 – Elms 6, Newbury 1

The Blazers jumped out to an early lead for the second straight game plating two runs in the 1st inning and adding to two more in the 3rd and the 4th.  Josh Berthiaume (Pittsfield, MA) had the big hit in the game with a bases clearing triple.

Elms got another great pitching performance this time from Jacob Graveline (Palmer, MA) going six innings only allowing three hits and one run.

This was a big win for the Blazers and Coach Scott Netkovick as he picks up his 100th career win.

Elms travels to Anna Maria College on Wednseday for a non-conference game, first pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M.
