Cannon previously served as a pitching coach for the Division II Seton Hill Griffins in Greensburg, PA after playing there himself as an undergraduate. Cannon transitioned from the mound to the bench in 2013 taking over the duties of pitching coach for the Griffins.  The righthander had significant success for the Griffins from 2008-12 winning 12 games over the span of 159 innings.  He ranks fourth in career ERA with a 3.79.  He fanned 113 batters to just 44 walks and earned WVIAC All-Conference accolades in 2008.

As mentor of the Griffins pitcher, Cannon's most recent staff in 2018 led the PSAC in ERA at 3.36, and ranked second in the league in opponents average.  The 2018 staff also ranked 12th nationally in strikeouts per game.  Cannon helped develop SHU's ace Perry DellaValle into a 27th round pick of the Cardinals in '18.

Cannon previously handled the bulk of the recruiting duties in Pennsylvania and oversaw all strength & conditioning for the program. He also played an active role in coordinating several community service projects for his team, which he looks to continue at Chatham.

A three-sport high school letterman in football, basketball and baseball, Cannon has been inducted into the Mars High School athletics Hall of Fame.  He earned his bachelors degree in Business / Entrepreneurial Studies in 2011 and earned his MBA in Management at Seton Hill in the spring of 2014.
