Susquehanna takes Landmark lead

Centenary scored 40 runs on Monday as they swept Valley Forge, 22-7 and 18-1, to move to 4-2 in the CSAC.

A walk-off wild pitch and a six-run fifth inning propelled Susquehanna University to another doubleheader sweep of Elizabethtown College on Monday, completing the four-game series sweep of the Blue Jays. The River Hawks (5-4, 5-1 LC) rallied from a 10-6 deficit for an 11-10 victory in eight innings in the first game and then Susquehanna picked up an 11-6 triumph in the nightcap. With game one tied 10-10 in the bottom of the eighth following a two-out, two-RBI single by junior designated hitter Adam Schreck, sophomore Jared Forscht came in to pinch run for Schreck. Forscht proceeded to steal both second and third before scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch by junior Matt Barton. In the final game of the series, SU broke a tied game open with six runs in its half of the fifth and the Blue jays could only score one the rest of the way.

Keystone earned a split in Monday's non-conference doubleheader against PSU Harrisburg. The Giants (7-3) captured game one, 23-5, before falling to the Lions (10-2) in game two, 14-4. The Giants tallied runs in every inning except the 7th, including a 6-run 5th and 8-run 8th. Keystone enjoyed 24 hits in the opener, including 4 homers – 2 from RJ Gouldsbury and one each from Nick Carlini and Evan Fallwell. Despite jumping out to a 4-1 after the 1st in game one, the Lions roared back with 14 unanswered runs. Dallas Hite led all hitters in game two with three hits. Maddux Ryan had four RBIs, Bret Williams had three RBIs to go with his 6th home run of the season.

Scranton broke out the bats in a big way as the Royals (7-5, 7-5 Landmark) scored 35 runs between the two games of Tuesday's doubleheader and completed the four-game sweep of the Drew Rangers (0-10, 0-10 Landmark) at Volpe Field in Scranton. Scranton won game one by a score of 20-1 and took game two 15-1. The 20 runs marks the most the Royals have scored since a 29-11 win over Marywood on March 26, 2019. Head coach Mike Bartoletti's squad has won four straight and six of seven.

Bethel University kicked off a stretch of seven games in seven days Monday afternoon at Carleton. Bethel took the series opener 6-4 before leading 8-6 in game two heading into the bottom of the ninth before the game was halted due to darkness. Thomas Friesen and Marcus Krupke each had multi-RBI days in the opener while James Woelfel went a combined 3-for-6 driving in three runs and crossing the plate four times himself.

Grove City College split a doubleheader with visiting Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Monday afternoon at Jack Behringer Field. Grove City won the opener, 10-8, in a game that counts towards the conference standings. Thiel pulled out a 7-6 win in Game Two, which the conference classifies as a non-conference game. Grove City (10-6, 8-4 PAC) scored eight runs over its final three at-bats in the opener as the Wolverines erased Thiel's 3-2 lead in the opener. In the nightcap, Thiel scored twice in the top of the seventh for a 7-5 lead. Grove City cut the lead to 7-6 when Tanner Orner singled but dspite loading the bases with one out would not score again.

Anderson University poured in 27 runs of offense during Monday's HCAC doubleheader to sweep Mount St. Joseph University at Don Brandon Field. Anderson (12-8, 12-8) took down Mount St. Joseph (8-11, 8-11) by a score of 14-2 in seven innings during Game 1. The Ravens then locked up a 13-5 victory in Game 2. "This was a nice bounce back after the sweep on Saturday," Coach Mathew Bair said. Kennedy Parker (1-1) earned the win in Game 1. He struck out six batters, issued two walks and allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings. Kasey Henderson (4-1) secured the win in Game 2. He fanned two batters, yielded four walks and gave up four runs on eight hits in seven innings. "I was proud of our two seniors who led us on the mound. Wins are always a great way to start off the week. We are a little banged up right now and we need to get a few guys healthy to make a solid run in the second half of the season."

Wilson College played host to the Highlanders of Cairn University this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader. The Phoenix (11-3, 2-2 CSAC) split the series with the Highlanders (5-5, 2-2 CSAC), dropping the first game, 2-1, and winning the second game, 7-0. In the opener, Wilson tried to get the last inning rally going but came up short, as they dropped the first game by a final score of 2-1. Junior Kevin Ehrman got the nod in game two. Ehrman threw eight innings, striking out four and only letting up three hits.

Westminster College won both games against the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets in a home doubleheader on Monday. The Titans won game one, 12-2, in a seven-inning game, before claiming game two by a score of 14-2 in a nine-inning contest. In the first game, Westminster (6-10, 4-8 PAC) got ahead of Waynesburg (4-8, 2-7 PAC) with a huge seven-run first inning, including two two-RBI singles by graduate student Frank Cinicola and junior Dawson Porter. In the nightcap, Westminster again scored first, this time to the tune of five runs in the bottom of the second inning as the Titans again sealed an easy victory.

It was a hit parade out at Shaw Park today with Fontbonne University scattering 17 hits and plating 19 runs in the shutout win over Harris-Stowe. The Griffins got on the board quick in the first with Daniel Youngblood sending a shot over the left field wall, his fourth on the season, giving them a 1-0 lead. In the second, the Griffins broke the game wide open. Joey Johnson got things started with a two out single to center. After a hit-by-pitch, Lane Smith tripled to left plating the duo to make it a 3-0 outing. Colby Shivers kept the line moving with an RBI single. After a walk, Braeden Dobbs cleared the bases with his first triple on the season to put Fontbonne well out in front, 6-0. In the fifth, the Griffins plated nine runs with two outs with Youngblood and Dobbs going back-to-back and Thomas Purschke adding a two-run shot of his own. Fontbonne added four more runs in the sixth with Dobbs tallying three RBI and Paul Wilson adding an RBI double of his own for the 19-0 final.

Misericordia split a doubleheader at Arcadia, Monday, to take three out of four games from the Knights. The Cougars got all the runs they needed in the second inning as the took the opener, 3-1. The Knights rallied to win the nightcap, 3-1. In the opener a three run second stood tall. In the second, MU tied the game in the eighth only to see Arcadia take the lead back in the bottom of the inning for the winning margin.

After the Easter Holiday, Mount Aloysius returned to the diamond for their AMCC opener, at Pitt-Bradford, on Monday. They got themselves into an early tie for first-place following a sweep of the Panthers. Creek Miller started the game off strong on the bump for the Mounties and Douglas Cannon came into the game for his AMCC-leading, fifth save of the season. In game two, the Mounties overcame a crooked numer in the third with one of their own in the fifth as they completed the sweep.

Immaculata returned to action on Monday afternoon for a doubleheader against Wesley to open Atlantic East play. In the first game of the twinbill, Wesley scored the first runs of the contest but it was Immaculata who picked up the victory rolling to a 12-3 victory over the Wolverines in the series opening game before taking the nightcap by a final of 9-3 to win the season series over Wesley. Mason Keller (3-0) got the start for Immaculata in the first game of the doubleheader and earned the victory surrendering just a pair of earned runs in the first inning of his four innings of work while scattering six hits and striking out three to earn his third victory in as many tries to open the Spring. Ray Lutick (1-0) got the start on the mound for Immaculata in the second game of the afternoon and went six innings surrendering just one run on six hits while striking out seven to earn his first victory as a Mighty Mac.

It was a beautiful day for baseball at the Thunderdome on Monday as the Cougars of Concordia University Chicago (6-7) won a pair of games over the Marian University Sabres (3-13) by final scores of 8-2 and 12-11. The story of game one was Westin Stutzman throwing his first career complete game. The sophomore went 9.0 innings, allowing nine hits and striking out eight. He had command of his pitches all day, allowing zero walks and facing just 35 batters. The second game was much more of a back-and-forth battle that came all the way down to the bottom of the ninth. Senior Brody Mariotti came to the plate representing the winning run and launched a massive walk-off two-run shot over the tallest part of the wall in right center field to give the Cougars the sweep.
